Founder and Head Carpenter Matt Swanson was a passionate creator with a love of wood, design, and community when he began selling colorful hardwood cutting boards and barware at farmers markets over a decade ago. Those boards turned out to be big, heavy business cards, quietly introducing what the brand would become. The ‘OG’ clients from the early days eventually began seeking bespoke wood designs for their homes and so began a custom woodworking business alongside its already established retail line. From wood countertops, butcher block island tops, dining tables, and other wood elements for the home and for businesses, BirchBarn Designs is custom carpentry.
It all began with a cutting board and a desire to make cool stuff out of wood. As the boards gained popularity around the farmers market circuit, BirchBarn went from 300 sq. ft inside their garage to 3000 sq. ft of workshop + retail in a burdgeoning artisan enclave in Scituate's Greenbush neighborhood.
We’re proving what we’re capable of over and over. Even during down times, we don’t get sedentary. We are constantly adding to our capabilities to keep people coming back.
