BirchBarn Designs began in 2013 with colorful, hardwood cutting boards sold at farmers markets, but founder and head carpenter Matt Swanson was never going to be content on just being the ‘cutting board guy.’ Those boards were big business cards, quietly introducing what the brand would become.
Alongside its retail line of hardwood cutting boards and artisan home goods, BirchBarn Designs is a custom carpentry business - designing and building wood countertops, butcher block island tops, dining tables, and other wood elements for interiors. We collaborate with clients, builders, and interior designers to create statement pieces for the home from the best pieces of wood we can source. Everything is made in our workshop in Scituate, Ma, but we take orders throughout New England.
It all began with a cutting board and a desire to make cool stuff out of wood. As the boards gained popularity around the farmers market circuit, BirchBarn went from 300 sq. ft inside their garage to 3000 sq. ft of workshop + retail in a burdgeoning artisan enclave in Scituate's Greenbush neighborhood.
We’re proving what we’re capable of over and over. Even during down times, we don’t get sedentary. We are constantly adding to our capabilities to keep people coming back.
