The Sweet Warmth of Cherry Wood

Over the last year, we saw many custom countertop orders using white oak and black walnut. Both species are elite wood tones that bring their own spirit to a space and are recommended for many projects. But we were excited to receive an order for expansive edge-grain cherry countertops recently. We had the delight of seeing the finished project in Scituate and the results were cherry chic.
The level of warmth inside this kitchen was palpable. The quartzite island paired perfectly with the warm, rich golden hues of the cherry countertops and window trim, with windows that flood the space with light and airiness. Rounding out the kitchen palette were muted, sage green cabinets with gold hardware and accents.
The countertops were made using edge-grain cherry wood. This is a style of butcher block where continuous strips of solid wood are turned on their sides and glued together to expose the narrow edge of the wood. This method is partly for aesthetics, as it creates this visually-striking tonal variation, but it also makes a more durable surface since the wood's narrow side-grain is stronger than the face-grain.
In our opinion, this kitchen was designed as much for everyday moments as it was entertaining.
