Sklong

From: $85.00

Made to be an elevated serving board, the Sklong uses all of our favorite exotic woods. We glued up several skinny pieces and after 17 of them, it turned out to be pretty long too. Skinny + Long = Sklong!

Dimensions: 8″ x 15″ x 2.75″

Description

Sklong stands for skinny & long, which perfectly describes this unique, bulky serving board. But don’t get us wrong, while this board appears small and limited, it’s actually impressive and versatile.

The Sklong uses seventeen 8-inch long pieces, from remnant cuts of wood from our other popular boards. The pieces were so small, they were originally used for firewood. One day Matt had the idea to glue a bunch of these pieces together, and that my friends is how the Sklong was born.

The thick serving board is designed with edge-grain hardwood pieces, similar to our cutting boards, making it perfect for using it as a cutting board in any fashion. While you can use it however you’d like, we recommend giving this board a shot at your next charcuterie-filled event. Display your favorite cheese, meats, crackers, nuts, and more to catch your guests’ eyes.

Each Sklong is truly a work of art and its possibilities are endless. Send along your photos when you use this elevated serving board to contactus@birchbarndesigns.com too!

Frequently Asked Questions

This is a common question! For a simple engraving, we recommend one of four popular choices. (1) large initial or monogram (2) last name (3) wedding date or (4) longitude and latitude coordinates of a special place.

For a traditional monogram, with a larger center initial, follow the rules noted below.

  • Individual’s monogram = first, last, middle (for example, Carrie Pearl Smith = cSp)
  • Couple’s monogram = wife’s name, last name, husband’s name (for example, Caroline and Scott Miller = cMs)

Our wood charcuterie boards are treating with mineral oil. Mineral oil is 100% food safe and great for conditioning wood. You can also use coconut oil as an alternative to mineral oil.  General care instructions are included with your order. We also have detailed instructions for wood cutting board and a video on our website.

Detailed board care instructions are listed on our website, along with a YouTube video for reference. But generally, our recommendations are: (1) wash both sides of the board with soap/water (2) stand the board on its edge overnight to dry, and (3) condition all sides with mineral oil. Easy as 1-2-3!
